Add Godot to the KDE Application Menu

Godot installed to ~/.local/bin does not show up in the KDE menu automatically. KDE reads menu entries from .desktop files, so you need to create one for Godot.

Step 1: Create the desktop file

mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications
nano ~/.local/share/applications/godot.desktop

Step 2: Add this content

Replace YOUR_USERNAME with your actual username, and adjust the binary name if yours differs (for example Godot_v4.x-stable_linux.x86_64). The Exec line needs the full path; ~ does not expand here.

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Godot Engine
Comment=Godot game engine
Exec=/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/bin/godot %f
Icon=godot
Terminal=false
Categories=Development;Game;IDE;
StartupWMClass=Godot

Step 3: Add an icon (optional)

Godot's repository has an icon you can download:

mkdir -p ~/.local/share/icons
curl -o ~/.local/share/icons/godot.svg https://raw.githubusercontent.com/godotengine/godot/master/icon.svg

Then update the desktop file to point at it:

Icon=/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/icons/godot.svg

Step 4: Make it executable and refresh the menu

chmod +x ~/.local/share/applications/godot.desktop
kbuildsycoca6

Use kbuildsycoca5 instead if you are on an older Plasma version.

Result

Godot now appears under Development or Games in the KDE menu. If it does not show up right away, search for "Godot" in the menu search box, or log out and back in.
